So the other day at work, a fellow employee urges me to come into the warehouse checkout vehicle.... I kinda rolled my eyes, as I was expecting some beat up Aveo or something...
I walk in and lay my eyes on a CLEAN 1999 Toyota Camry LE V6 with - get this - 90,000 miles! We both kinda marveled at this C amry for a solid 15 minutes. I honestly can’t recall ever seeing one so clean! Aside from the leather needing some conditioner, I swear the interior looked like it was never sat in. The front and rear bumpers are the only parts of the car that have slight imperfections. I didn’t even see rust in the rear wheel wells, so there is absolutely no way this thing is from Illinois.
I drove the thing and that V6 is just so buttery smooth and quiet! Only thing I noticed while driving it was some suspension noise coming from the front passenger side.... This car still needs to go through our shop for an inspection, but I can’t imagine it needing much. It’s even got a set of Michelin Premiers all around with plenty of tread! As for the timing belt, t he little sticker under the hood said that the timing belt had been done at 54k.....
Boy oh boy do I want this thing.... I’d hate to see this go to someone who’s gonna trash it :(

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Camry or Corolla of that generation that the rear bumper actually matched the car. Glad to see this one doesn’t either.

Lol. My mom bought a base model 1997 Camry for my little brother in very similar circumstances about 5 years ago. $600 for a one-owner car that had something like 72k miles. It’s indestructible, nothing on it costs anything to fix, and it’ll probably be in the family now until a tree falls on it or something.
She also liked her V6 enough that she would’ve probably bought the car you saw to replace her high mileage model.

I mean, the bumper is plastic, the fenders are metal. They don’t receive paint the same way. I don’t think it’s a replacement, I think it’s just like that. I saw something about a new Supra having a similar color discrepancy from metal to plastic.

How inaccessible are the rear cylinders on this vintage of V6 Camry?

Toyota is the only manufacturer I’ve ever seen have issues of this scale with it. I mean jesus, pretty much everything from the 80s to now has had plastic bumpers, what’s Toyota’s excuse?
The only difference between painting plastic and painting metal is a flex additive, otherwise it can be applied exactly the same.

I’m pretty sure they come from the factory like that. It really sticks out on the silver, gold and beige cars. The other cars like white seem to match.

My sister drives a ‘96 with 54,000 miles. A local gas station owner was selling it for $3500. I kinda am jealous of it.

It’ll run forever even if it’s neglected. Can’t really go wrong. And having a V6 is a plus. A bit of a rarity, too.

My sister has a 1999 LE 4cyl with 109k miles on it. It’s got a little bit more wear but car is still solid.
Give me a holler when you find a 1989 Acura Integra LS in 5 spd.

I can’t believe they let them go out like that. I sure as hell wouldn’t buy anything that they couldn’t bother to match the paint on.

yep, was gonna say exactly that. Such an unfortunate flaw on an otherwise flawless vehicle.

T hese are some of best built passenger cars ever in the existence of mankind. The are completely mundane and ordinary but if you need to get from point a to point b with little drama...

I think it adds uniqueness to an otherwise underwhelming and mundane car.

Yep, you still see a ton of these Camry’s around beaten to shit and all.
My 95 Camry has the same V6. My relatives ignored ALL of the maintenance on it over the years (still had the original timing belt when I acquired it) and it honestly still runs very well for 215k.

I actually like that body style best of any modern Camry.
Also, oh my look at that interior:

She had no idea what she was buying. I was losing my mind over the phone. The engine bay looked brand new. No oil or dirt stains anywhere. If she crashes it I am going to be irate.
